A BOOK OF COMMON TIBETAN BUDDHIST PRAYERS -- NOW AVAILABLE

We are pleased to announce that "A Book of Common Tibetan Buddhist Prayers: Recitations from the Shambhala Prayer Festival for Universal Peace" is now available for order. You can obtain a "ring-bound" version (better for hands-free use), or a regular perfect bound version (with spine). This work is the result of The Monlam Translation Project, whose original purpose was to publish a companion volume to the book of recitations used during the five day United Shambhala Prayer Festival for World Peace at Blue Valley Thubten Chokorling Monastery in Golok, Tibet. The fourth annual prayer festival was held in September 2007, attracting more than 3,000 participants, including many from abroad. One hundred copies of this book, with full translations and English phonetics of the prayers and recitations, were offered to the foreign participants, who for the first time were able to understand and follow the recitations.

There are plans for similar volumes in other major languages, including Chinese and Vietnamese.

This book contains many of Tibetan Buddhism's most common prayers. It is very common in Tibetan monasteries and colleges to find such "lag dep" (handbooks) but until now there has been no comparable work in English. The book is non-sectarian, and includes special aspirations for the growth of each major dharma tradition, a general aspiration by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a new longevity prayer for His Holiness, and several important sutras and tantras.
